Website care and maintenance

Hosting, SSL, daily backups, updates and a number you can ring. So a broken form gets noticed by us, not by a customer.

What actually goes wrong when nobody’s watching

A website doesn’t fail all at once. It drifts: a plugin falls two versions behind, a form quietly stops sending, a backup nobody has tested just sits there looking safe. Then one day it matters.

Your website should be your strongest digital asset. Left alone, it slowly becomes a liability instead: a security hole, a slow page, a form that stopped working weeks ago and nobody noticed because nobody was looking.

The unglamorous truth about WordPress specifically: the plugins, theme and core all update on their own schedule, not yours, and every one of those updates is a chance for something to break. Left unpatched, they’re also how most sites get hacked. None of this shows up as an obvious warning. It shows up as rankings that quietly slip, a checkout that quietly fails, an enquiry that quietly goes nowhere.

Here’s the one that should worry you most: a broken contact form. No error, no crash, nothing that looks wrong if you glance at the site. It just stops sending. Every enquiry that comes in while it’s broken disappears, and you find out about it, if you find out at all, when someone mentions they emailed weeks ago and never heard back. One enquiry lost that way can cost more than a year of maintenance would have. A backup that was never actually tested is the same problem in reverse: it looks like insurance right up until the day you need to restore from it and discover it doesn’t work.

  • Security vulnerabilities and malware exposure
  • Plugin, theme or core updates causing breakages
  • Slow page speed and poor mobile performance
  • Search engine penalties or slipping rankings
  • Broken functionality, old content and lost leads

We remove those risks for you. We take responsibility for keeping everything current, safe and optimised, so you get website maintenance that actually means the site works, and the peace of mind of not having to check.

What you’re actually buying each month

The usual complaint about a care plan is nobody can say what it covers. Here’s exactly what’s in it, and what isn’t.

Included

Every month, without asking

Regular updates of your website, its themes, plugins and underlying software. Security monitoring and malware scanning to catch threats early. Regular backups of your database and files, so you can always restore if needed. Performance monitoring and speed optimisation across mobile and desktop. Uptime tracking and rapid emergency support if the site goes down. Small content updates, fixes and tweaks as they come up, we become your go-to for web help. A clear report each month so you know what we did and what we’d recommend next.

Not included

Quoted separately, when it comes up

The monthly plan covers keeping the site you already have running: updates, security, backups, monitoring, and the small fixes and tweaks that come up along the way. What it doesn’t cover is new work, a redesign, a new feature, a new section of the site. That’s a project, not maintenance, and it gets scoped and quoted the same way any new build would be.

How it runs, month to month

Simple, transparent, and built for your peace of mind, from the first call onward.

Audit

We review your site’s current state: performance, security, backups, updates and code quality, so we know exactly what we’re taking on before we take it on.

Onboarding

We set up monitoring, backup checks and emergency contact procedures. It doesn’t matter who built the site originally, if it’s technically sound and we have access, we can take it over.

Ongoing care

Every month we run updates, run checks, report to you and handle anything that comes up. That’s the bulk of the work, and it’s what keeps the risks above from ever becoming your problem.

Growth review

Quarterly, we review the site’s health and performance and propose improvements for speed, user experience, SEO and features, so the plan doesn’t just hold the line, it moves the site forward.

Emergency support

If the site breaks, we’re on it quickly. Support is tiered by priority, and we aim to fix critical issues within hours, not whenever someone gets to it.

Who this is for, and how you move over

Mostly, people who built a website and then discovered nobody was watching it.

  • Small and medium businesses without a full-time web team
  • Startups that need their site running reliably while they scale
  • Ecommerce stores where downtime or a bug could cost sales
  • Creative agencies who want a trusted partner to maintain sites for their clients
  • Anyone who built a site and now finds it hard to keep updated, secured or reliable

Because we also build websites, web apps and custom platforms ourselves, we’re comfortable working on any system. It doesn’t matter what your site is built on, WordPress or something bespoke. What matters is we can take it over, stabilise it and maintain it for you, starting with the audit above.

You deal with Jason, who builds it and maintains it. No subcontracting, no account manager relaying your message to someone else, no ticket queue.

Frequently asked questions

Can you maintain a website you didn’t build?

Yes. As long as the site is technically sound and we have access, we can take over maintenance and support it for you.

What happens if my site goes down?

Emergency support is part of the maintenance plan. If your site is offline or broken, we move quickly to find it, fix it and restore it.

How often do you take backups?

It depends on your site and how active it is. A high-activity site gets daily backups; a site that barely changes might only need weekly. We tailor that to you rather than applying one schedule to everyone.

Will you update my plugins and theme?

Yes. We handle regular updates and test that they don’t break the site first, in a safe environment, and we handle any issues that come up.

What does it cost?

It depends on the site, so we quote per client rather than publish a number that would be wrong for most people. Ring and describe what you’ve got and you’ll get a figure quickly.

What’s not included in the monthly plan?

New design work, new features, or a rebuild of part of the site. That’s project work, not maintenance, and it gets scoped and quoted separately rather than folded in quietly.

How do we move our existing site over to you?

We start with an audit: performance, security, backups, updates and code quality, so we know exactly what we’re taking on. Then we set up monitoring and backups and take it from there.

Do you only work on WordPress?

No. WordPress, custom-built, or part of a larger web app, we can support it.

Do you help with growth, or only keep things running?

Both. Maintenance is the core of it, but we also review your site quarterly for speed, user experience, SEO and feature improvements.

How fast do you respond when something breaks?

Support is tiered by priority, and we aim to fix critical issues within hours.

Rather just ask?

You do not need to read a blog post to get an answer. Ring and describe what you are trying to make.
