As part of SuperValu’s 2022 Christmas campaign, we partnered with TBWA to develop an AR filter featuring Deermuid, a young reindeer who was the main star of SuperValu’s last year’s Christmas TV ad.
This real-world AR filter was developed for both TikTok and Instagram in order to reach a wider audience and broader demographic. The main idea behind the filter was to provide users with a unique and memorable Christmas experience through the ability to interact with Deermuid whilst on TikTok or Instagram.
The social AR filter was well-received and contributed to spreading holiday cheer among all ages.
In order to create this real-world AR filter for TikTok and Instagram it was essential to recreate Deermuid the reindeer as accurately as possible to ensure continuity with the existing Christmas ad that won the hearts of the nation the previous year. The software that runs these filters is never going to be able to achieve the same results as a cinema or TV ad, so it’s always tricky, especially when trying to work with more complicated textures such as fur.
