Like all forms of content, it starts with a good story! Animation can be a useful medium for visually communicating with your audience due to its flexibility in both the scope of reality and execution. Depending on the requirements an animation can often be more cost effective than a video production with multiple locations and multiple actors. At the same time, it can also involve higher budgets than that of a video production but can allow for the creation of surreal experiences that are able to push the boundaries of reality, truly bringing imagination to life.

We have experience with many different animation techniques, but the most commonly requested projects would typically involve 2D. This animation technique is perfect for creating animated explainer videos, motion graphic content and whiteboard animations. When it comes to more detailed story telling with a desire for more feel and the requirement for impactful visuals then 3D would be the preferable option.

2D ANIMATION

2D animation is one of the more common techniques available for the majority of our productions, irrespective of budget as the scale is vast. When we talk about 2D we are talking about the kind of animation that involves working on flat shapes to create the visuals, like most cartoons that you would be familiar with. Rather than creating the piece frame by frame, we typically start by creating background scenes and then building rigs for the animated characters, giving us a lot more control over the individual parts, similar to the way you would operate a puppet. Generally, we use After Effects as it allows for the creation of complex animated rigs and features a special puppet tool, giving a lot more flexibility without impacting on costs. It can be a great way of demonstrating concepts that may be difficult to articulate through video. It can also be a more cost-effective way of producing a very professional looking piece of content. That’s why this form of animation is typically seen in animated explainer’s and corporate videos.

3D ANIMATION

3D often referred to as computer generated graphics, or probably what most people would just consider animation at this stage. 3D works in a different way to 2D. Although they both require a firm understanding of the principals of movement and composition, however the techniques and programmes used to create them are quite different. 3D is frequently used for productions where a more detailed or realistic look is required. It is also used to create a deeper connection with the overall story and narrative. Not to mention it can look seriously professional.
